Another summer of swimming and other aquatic activities will kick off this month at the Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) pools.  Opening day for PP&R’s outdoor pools is Tuesday, June 14, 2016.  Parents who want to enroll their children in swimming lessons should act now.  Please remember that Grant Pool is closed for renovations, expected to be open by August if not before.

As part of the PP&R Summer Free For All, free open play swim sessions are offered throughout the summer at pools across the city. Click here for schedules.

iOfrecemos clases de natación en español! Portland Parks & Recreation is proud to once again offer swim lessons conducted in Spanish.  Contact your local pool for more information (llame a su piscina para más información).

More good news!  For the first time in several years, all PP&R indoor AND outdoor pools will be open to the public for swimming on Independence Day, Monday, July 4.

“Portland Parks & Recreation is pleased that the City’s Adopted Budget includes our requested funding to reopen Montavilla Pool on Sundays this summer,” says PP&R Director Mike Abbaté.  “Funding reductions in recent years had meant we had to cut back the hours at that popular site; but City Council has seen the value of Montavilla Pool being open seven days a week.  This expands our recreational offerings during our peak summer season.”

Director Abbaté and Portland Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz also note that the City’s budget resulted in funding to keep Buckman Pool open.

Portland Parks & Recreation pools also offer open play swims, water exercise classes, junior lifeguard training, junior swim instructor training, summer swim teams, and special events.

Swim lessons are available for all age groups and ability levels.  Most sessions include 10 lessons for $52.50.  There is also a FREE Learn to Swim session from June 14-17.  Free Lesson registration is walk-in (in person) registration only on Saturday, June 11 from 8:00am-11:30am at your neighborhood pool.  Pool site and contact information is below.

For more information on how to register for swimming lessons or participate in other summer activities, contact the pool in your area or the Aquatic Administration Office at 503-823-5130.
